nuuuuuu, its not the woman this time, It was the guy he fought with. He spoke about his life story whether it was true or not which turned out to be a sob story about his lack of money and the MC fell for it which led to him handing over his credit card. It didnt really show much on him actually having any friends, there was a scene in the class room where he was day dreaming which ended up with the whole class laughing at him after the teacher called him out like he was a perv. It's like he was living in his own little world during his school days till Tang Zichen taught him martial arts. No. This is set in China, but for sure there is a heavy Thai influence in the show. There is Thai boxing experts (the girl) and of course some Thai restaurants. Although I have never heard of Thai BBQ. I didn't even know that was thing. Korean BBQ for sure, but Thai? Never heard of it.

Aerlis Ambrosius A while back I started to read the novel because it was written by the same author as Yong Sheng, I didnt get far, but the changes to the donghua vs the novel is quite substantial

In the novel, as far as I read, I did not catch the mention of any country, cities and towns were referred to as City C, Town B etc, while the donghua refers to the city that Wang Chao lives as South East Asia City? or something like that, it was mentioned in the early episode, my opinion is that it is set in an alternate world with an alternate history, which is why you have armies running around, you get various South Eastern country cultures throughout the series (Thai kick boxing and the woman from Thailand, also Thai signs etc) OR you could be right in guessing it is set in Thailand where people speaks Chinese and have Chinese names :P
